Colchester boss John Ward says on-loan Town defender Tommy Smith faces a big test to bounce back having been at fault for three of Yeovil’s goals as the Glovers beat the U’s 4-2 at Huish Park on Saturday. New Zealand international Smith was subbed in the 75th minute.

An Arran Lee-Barrett error led to Andrew Surman’s opener, then a Gareth McAuley own goal increased the Canaries’ lead. Town boss Paul Jewell says he’ll pick his Town side for tonight’s East Anglian derby against Norwich after training this morning having assessed the fitness of midfielder Grant Leadbitter, left-back Mark Kennedy and a couple of unnamed additional doubts. Leadbitter suffered a head injury at Bristol City on Saturday, while Kennedy missed the trip to Ashton Gate with a tight hamstring.

Caolan Lavery and Tom Winter scored the goals as Town’s U18s beat Portsmouth 2-1 at Playford Road despite playing for 81 minutes with only 10 men. Defender Jide Maduako was red-carded in the ninth minute for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Town boss Paul Jewell felt his side’s 3-3 home draw with Middlesbrough could have ended seven each with both sides having plenty of chances in addition to their goals. The Blues manager was less than impressed with his team’s defending, which he thought was uncharacteristically poor, but was pleased with their spirit as they came from 3-1 down.
